How the TAS process works
Service Tasmania says the buyer must transfer a boat registration within 14 days and provides a seller notice-of-disposal service. Both parties should retain signed evidence and confirm the latest MAST/Service Tasmania requirements.
Seller steps
Complete these steps before or at settlement and keep copies. If the vessel is registered elsewhere, use that jurisdiction's process.
- 01Match the registration and HIN to the boat and records.
- 02Sign the accepted transfer or registration evidence with the buyer.
- 03Submit the online notice of disposal and retain confirmation.
- 04Complete the trailer disposal and transfer separately where included.
What the buyer needs to complete
A clear seller file helps the buyer meet the relevant deadline without returning for missing signatures or identifiers.
- 01Obtain the signed transfer or registration certificate and proof of purchase.
- 02Transfer the boat registration within 14 days through the current Tasmanian process.
- 03Retain evidence of the transfer and sale.
- 04Arrange the separate trailer transfer.
Boat sale document checklist
Prepare these records as applicable to the vessel and transaction.
- Tasmanian boat registration certificate
- HIN and vessel details
- Signed transfer and sale contract
- Seller notice-of-disposal confirmation
- Trailer registration where applicable
- PPSR and finance evidence where relevant
Trailer, finance and settlement
The road trailer is a separate registration. Include its VIN and registration in the contract and complete its disposal and transfer independently.
Service Tasmania states that the buyer must transfer the registration within 14 days. Check the current service page at settlement.
Before handover, match the HIN and registration details, verify cleared funds, complete any lender payout and discharge, and record the inventory and keys delivered.
