How the QLD process works
Queensland provides online and form-based pathways for eligible recreational-vessel transfers. The government's guidance states that the buyer must change the ownership details within 14 days. Keep a complete receipt and make the transfer process part of settlement.
Seller steps
Complete these steps before or at settlement and keep copies. If the vessel is registered elsewhere, use that jurisdiction's process.
- 01Confirm the registration number and HIN match the vessel and your records.
- 02Use the current Queensland transfer pathway and provide the buyer with complete signed evidence of sale.
- 03Retain the transaction receipt and proof of the seller-side transfer or disposal step.
- 04Complete a separate trailer-registration transfer if the trailer is included.
What the buyer needs to complete
A clear seller file helps the buyer meet the relevant deadline without returning for missing signatures or identifiers.
- 01Check the registration and HIN before paying the balance.
- 02Change the registered ownership within 14 days using the applicable online or form process.
- 03Keep the receipt, contract and any transfer confirmation.
- 04Complete the trailer transfer separately.
Boat sale document checklist
Prepare these records as applicable to the vessel and transaction.
- Queensland vessel registration details
- HIN and vessel description
- Signed receipt or sale contract
- Inventory and exclusions
- Trailer registration and VIN where included
- PPSR and finance-discharge evidence where relevant
Trailer, finance and settlement
A road trailer is not transferred by changing the vessel registration. List it separately in the contract and follow Queensland vehicle-registration rules.
Queensland's official guidance states that the buyer must change vessel ownership details within 14 days. Verify the current process and fees before the sale.
Before handover, match the HIN and registration details, verify cleared funds, complete any lender payout and discharge, and record the inventory and keys delivered.
